Dangers to your gut?
COLONIC IRRIGATION/HYDROTHERAPY - A DANGER FOR IBS-SUFFERERS?
A qualified practitioner will of course administer the 'Colon Cleansing' very carefully to avoid the risks of bowel perforation and severe infection/inflammation (which can happen because of non-sterile equipment).
Many adverse reaction have been reported (e.g. the body may absorb too much water, leading to electrolyte imbalances in the blood, nausea, vomiting, heart failure, fluid in the lungs, abnormal heart rhythms
... and many positive effects as well (although to make it very clear: Colonics do NOT prevent from colon cancer).
BUT... the more we understand the gut as one important disease fighting centre of the body and its role in immune function (see www.immunecliniclondon.com), the more we understand the function and the role of the microbiota, the more we understand that Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is in fact not a proper diagnosis, but an umbrella term for many different diseases and disorders which require more tests for sufferers... the more question marks appear when it comes to the 'benefits' of colonic hydrotherapy.
To the list of contraindications (like Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn's Disease, Diverticulitis, Haemorrhoids, Cancer), we must add:
Unspecified IBS, Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), Post Food Poisoning Syndrome (PFPS), Coeliac Disease, Collagenous Colitis, Lymphocytic Colitis.
And let us get rid of another wrong 'diagnosis' by hydrotherapists: Candida and Parasites! (To read the booklets "CANDIDA CONFUSION" and "THE BIG PARASITE SCARE" CLICK HERE) |
